Well now’s your chance. Here are the key highlights:

Kinja'd!!!

MSRP does not include $895 for destination and handling ($940 in Alaska), taxes, title or additional fees. Dealers set actual sale prices.

-The Mazda3 is more expensive; the new sedan costs $2,905 more than a 2018 model, while the hatchback commands an additional $4,255 over its predecessor. B ut every engine is the 2.5 and lots more standard equipment.

-New MT option only available on FWD, premium package hatchback at $27,900

-MT costs the same as the AT-AWD starts at $24,845 for sedan add $1000 for hatch

- Some publications say AWD+MT+ Skyactive-X 2.0 may come in future, 2020 perhaps but no such combo today

They released it, but we can’t see the pricing, so we’re not ranting about it.

I only saw the prices today. I couldn’t afford one anyway. If I could I’d buy the Hyundai Elantra GT now instead of the Mazda 3.

I would buy a Civic hatch over the 3 hatch, but I would buy a 3 sedan over a (non-Si)  Civic sedan. I’m firmly in the hate side of the 3 hatch’s looks.

This is one vehicle I will have to see in person before I decide how I feel about the aesthetics. I would definitely go hatchback as I need the functionality, but much like my current Mazda3 hatch, it has some angles I absolutely love and some angles I cringe. I wish I could get the KODO Mazda2 hatch in all honesty, but I don’t have very good contacts in Puerto Rico that can help me get one.

You can get a 201HP Elantra GT sport for cheap compared to the competition. There’s also an N line version now

Pricing for the manual N Line starts at $24,185, and $25,285 for the dual-clutch, including destination.

I want to like it, as Mazdas really are nice cars to drive. But I have some serious reservations about that C pillar. My wife and I will sometimes swap cars. And, well, she has already bounced my Civic off of stuff when it has decent visibility (and cameras!). I can’t imagine how many things would be hit with that giant blind spot.

As to would I take it over the Corolla, Civic or Impreza? Maybe.

The Corolla is okay, but Toyota’s refusal to include Android Auto is a dealbreaker for me. The Impreza need more engine. I like the new Civic.

But honestly, the one I’m looking forward to is the 2020 (although probably 2021 in the US) Honda Fit.  I’ll probably be looking to get rid of my current car around that time, and I really hope I can find a comfortable driving position in the next Fit.  I’d own one now, but I just couldn’t get comfy in the current gen.

I was literally just ranting about this to my brother. But I wasn’t even close to the same level of outrage as I am now because I had my numbers wrong. A car that is being sold to Canadians for way, way, less. They are jacking up prices for the US market to a level that is unacceptable. Also I had every intention of purchasing one if the price was reasonable  but the unmitigated gall of demanding we pay more for the manual for a premium trim whether or not we want it is ridiculous. Its Porsche levels of insanity.

So playing the Devil’s Advocate here- isn’t the general complaint that manufactures relegate manuals to the lowest budget trims (see Mazda6, Cx5), now they’ve put it in a higher level trim which will obviously raise the price along with the total base price increase as well. AWD+ manual unavailability complaint I completely understand. So is the expectation is that they have to release a manual version in every trim and spend time and money for testing etc. and dealer inventory? So damn if they do, damn if they don’t?

For me the Skyactiv-X and the AWD is the draw. If I was looking at a FWD 2.5 Mazda3 in any configuration I’d probably be going with an Elantra GT N-line or Civic. But I’d take an  AWD 3 over an Impreza any day and if they allow AWD with the new engine it would be hard to pick something else if there aren’t any major flaws.

Oh, I didn’t realize that was a common complaint. I guess I always assumed that enthusiasts generally went for the lower trim options because people are always complaining about price on the FP. I generally prefer lower trims from a price perspective and because they tend to be more basic. I like basic cars. What I don't like though is when a 4 cylinder variant comes in a manual and the 6 cylinder variant of a car does not.

This falls within one of the segments I’m currently mulling over for my next car purchase. One of my more firm requirements is Manual and either AWD or LSD’d FWD/RWD, so this unfortunately is a non-starter. I’m glad that they offer up the manual on the Premium trim, but otherwise it’s extremely difficult to justify over a similarly-priced GTI or spending $4k less (!) on a Civic Si.

Way overpriced. Mazda doesn’t have the clout to charge more than Toyota and Honda. And it still isn’ t even out yet. They should just sell it as a 2020 model. We’re already almost halfway thru the 2019 model year. (You’re allowed to sell a car made in January 1, 2019 as a 2020)

Fugly and poor visibility. They should’ve stuck to using the same doors on the the sedan and hatchback like they did with the outgoing 3.

The most interesting thing is that Mazda is only offering the manual on the top model instead of only the base model. This is a reversal of course over what they’re doing now with the outgoing 3 (and 6). It also means that a manual 3 will cost more than a manual 6.

That is what was great about the Mazda 3. It was available on all 3 trims for both the sedan and the hatch. It went from 6 options to 1 option. Seeing that they practically dropped the 2018 base equivalent, 4 options would be great.
